Emphasis with 再也不/没 (Never Again)
用"再也不/没"表示强调
Use 再也不 and 再也没 to emphatically express that something will never happen again or has never happened since
Use 再也不 for future or present emphatic negation (will never again do something) and 再也没 for past emphatic negation (has never again done something since a certain point).
再也 intensifies the negation — it is much stronger than simple 不再. 再也不 often ends with 了 to emphasize the change: 我再也不迟到了. 再也没 often pairs with 过 to emphasize the absence of the action since then: 他再也没来过.

Understanding 用"再也不/没"表示强调
The 再也不/没 structure is one of the most emotionally charged emphatic expressions in Chinese. 再也不 means "never again (from now on)" and expresses determination, resolution, or a strong promise: 我再也不喝酒了 (I will never drink again). 再也没 means "never again (since then)" and describes something that stopped happening in the past: 他再也没跟我联系过 (He never contacted me again since then). The 也 in this structure is not the regular "also" — it serves as an intensifier, making the negation absolute and emphatic. Without 也, 再不 and 再没 still work but sound less forceful. This pattern is extremely common in everyday speech, storytelling, and emotional expressions. Mastering it allows you to convey strong feelings of regret, determination, loss, or change.
Key Points
- 再也不 + verb + 了 = "will never again..." — expresses a firm resolve about the future.
- 再也没 + verb + 过 = "has never again... (since then)" — describes the past.
- 也 is an intensifier here, not "also." It makes the negation stronger and more absolute.
- 再也不 is often used in promises, resolutions, and warnings.
- 再也没 is often used in narratives to describe permanent changes or lost connections.
- Without 也, 再不 and 再没 are milder: 我再不去了 vs. 我再也不去了 (the second is much more emphatic).
In Chinese culture, saying 再也不…… carries emotional weight and sincerity. When someone says 我再也不骗你了 (I will never lie to you again), it is understood as a solemn promise. Breaking such a promise is considered particularly serious because of the emphatic nature of the expression.

Common Mistakes
For past actions, use 再也没, not 再也不. Also, 过 comes directly after the verb, not after the object.
Do not combine 没 and 不 together. Use 不 for future/habitual negation and 没 for past negation — pick one.
The word order is fixed: 再也不, not 再不也. 也 must come between 再 and 不/没.
Practice Exercises
Tips & Tricks
Use 再也不 + 了 for promises and resolutions about the future: 再也不迟到了.
Use 再也没 + 过 for narrating the past: 再也没见过.
The 也 is what makes it emphatic — compare 我再不去了 (mild) vs. 我再也不去了 (strong).
Time expressions like 从那以后 and 自从 pair naturally with 再也没.

Write four sentences using 再也不 (promises or resolutions about the future) and four sentences using 再也没 (things that stopped happening in the past). Try to use 自从 or 从那以后 in at least two of your past-tense sentences.
