Where the name comes from
The Duke of Zhou's fourth son, Bo Ling (伯齡), was enfeoffed with the small state of Jiang (蔣) in what is now Gushi County, Henan. The state of Chu annexed it in 617 BC, and Bo Ling's line kept the state's name as its own surname. The name is listed 13th in the Hundred Family Surnames.
